AIR CRAFT CARRIERS OF INDIA

  • INS Vikrant – purchased in 1957 (formerly HMS Hercules-UK), commissioned in 1961 and decommissioned in 1977. Played important role in 1971 war. Later turned into Maritime Museum at Cuffe Parade, Mumbai. Dismantled in 2015, after court allowed its scrapping.
  • INS Viraat- formerly HMS Hermes- UK. Proposed to be decommissioned in 2019
  • INS Vikramaditya- formerly Admiral Gorshkov-Russia, presently docked at Karwar port, Karnataka.
  • INS Vikrant- under construction at Cochin Shipyard, 1st indigenous aircraft carrier, to be commissioned in 2018
  • INS Vishal- 65,000 tonnage carrier, to be commissioned in 2025

INDIAN MISSILES

  • Surface to surface missiles: Prithvi and Dhanush (naval version of Prithvi)
  • Surface to air missile: Trishul (short range) and Akash (Medium range)
  • Anti tank missile: Nag- HELINA (Helicopter launched) and NAMICA (land launched)
  • Ballistic missile: Agni, Prahar, Surya and Sagarika(sub-marine launched ballistic missile), Agni-5 (ICBM)
  • Cruise missile: Nirbhay (sub-sonic), BrahMos (super-sonic) and Shaurya & BrahMos-II (super-sonic)
  • BVRM-Ashtra
  • BMDS- PAD (exo-atmospheric) and AAD (endo-atmospheric)

INDIAN SUBMARINES

  • INS Arihant- nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine, indigenously built at Vishakhapatnam shipyard.
  • INS Chakra- taken on lease from Russia for 10 years (2012)
  • 6 Sindhughosh class submarines
