2nd Satellite crossed solar limit

On 10th of December, 2018, Voyager-2 became second man made object to enter interstellar space, after Voyager-1. 

Voyager-1 crossed the Heliosphere and its outer limit heliopause on 25th August, 2012 to become 1st spacecraft to enter interstellar space, beyond solar limit.

Facts about Voyager-2

  • Voyager-2 was launched on 20th August, 1977
  • Voyager-2 was launched earlier than Voyager-1, however, it was named so because it was to reach Jupiter and Saturn after Voyager-1. Voyager-1 was launched on 5th September, 1977.
  • Voyager-2 became first spacecraft to visit all the 4 outer planets, viz. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune.
  • On 13th August, 2013, Voyager-2 became NASA’s longest operating mission, beating Pioneer 6’s record of 12,758 days
